Abandoned cart recovery

Answer the question that empties the cart

Recovery emails chase a shopper who already left. The cheaper fix is answering the question that made them hesitate while they are still on the page — and, on Shopify, adding the right item to the cart for them.

Is this you?

The questions below are the ones customers actually type.

Fashion and apparel

Sizing doubt is the quietest cart killer there is. Nobody emails to ask; they close the tab and the sale never existed.

  • I'm usually a 10 in Zara, what size am I here?
  • Does this run small?
  • Is the model wearing her usual size?
  • Can I return it if it doesn't fit?

The agent answers from your size guide and returns policy in the moment, and on a Shopify storefront it can swap the variant in the cart to the size the shopper settles on.

Furniture and large homeware

High basket values and a delivery question nobody can answer without reading three pages. The hesitation is about logistics, not price.

  • Will this fit up a narrow Victorian staircase?
  • How long until it arrives?
  • Do you take away the old sofa?
  • What happens if it doesn't fit through the door?

Dimensions, delivery windows and the returns position are answered instantly from your own pages, which is the difference between a considered purchase and a closed tab.

Supplements and subscription consumables

The cart converts fine; the subscription checkbox is what causes the pause.

  • Am I signing up to a subscription?
  • Can I cancel after the first order?
  • How do I skip a month?
  • Is there a discount if I subscribe?

The commitment is explained plainly at the moment of doubt, which converts better than a discount code sent the next morning.

Electronics and technical products

Compatibility is the blocker, and getting it wrong means a return, so shoppers stall rather than risk it.

  • Will this work with a 2019 MacBook?
  • Is the warranty valid outside the UK?
  • Do I need an adapter as well?

Specifications are answered from your own product data, and the agent can search your catalogue and add the adapter they also need.

What it does

  • Answers in the moment of hesitationSizing, delivery, returns and compatibility, answered from your own pages while the shopper still has the item in front of them.
  • Reads and changes the Shopify cartOn a Shopify storefront the agent can see what is in the cart, swap a variant to the right size, change a quantity or add the accessory the shopper also needs — only when they ask for it.
  • Searches your catalogueWhen the answer is a different product, it finds it rather than sending the shopper back to the menu.
  • Carries on in WhatsApp or InstagramA shopper who found you through a Reel can ask in the DM, which is where the hesitation happened.

Setting it up

  1. 1
Connect ShopifyThis is what gives the agent the cart and the catalogue. Without it, it can still answer policy questions but cannot change anything.
  2. 2
Make sure your size guide and delivery pages are real pagesThe agent answers from what you wrote. A size guide that exists only as an image cannot be read, and this is the single most common cause of weak answers.
  3. 3
Put it on the product page, not just the home pageHesitation happens on the product page and in the cart. That is where the widget needs to be.

What it does not do

  • It does not send abandoned cart emails or follow-up sequences — it answers before the shopper leaves rather than chasing them afterwards
  • Cart actions need the Shopify storefront widget; they do not work from a WhatsApp thread
  • It will not apply discounts or create codes unless you build that as a custom action

Questions

Does this send abandoned cart emails?
No. It works earlier than that, by answering the question that caused the abandonment while the shopper is still on the page. If you want recovery emails as well, keep the tool you use for those — the two do different jobs and work fine together.
Do I need Shopify?
Not for answering questions, which works on any site. Reading and changing the cart is a Shopify storefront feature, so that part needs the Shopify integration.
How does it know my sizing?
From your size guide, as text. If yours is a JPEG, the agent cannot read it, and putting the measurements into the page is usually the highest-value hour you will spend on this.
