A Tidio alternative where the AI is the product, not an add-on
Tidio is live chat for small businesses, with its Lyro AI available as a separately priced addition. ClerkChat starts from the agent: it answers from your own documents by default, on your website and in WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and Telegram.
You are probably comparing these because
- The AI conversation allowance runs out before the month does
- You are paying for live chat and for AI on top of it
- Your customers message on social apps, not only through the site widget
- You want automation and a human handoff in the same conversation
ClerkChat compared with Tidio

| AI pricing | Included in the plan | Priced separately by AI conversation |
| Where it answers | Website, hosted page, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Telegram | Website widget, with channel integrations |
| No website needed | Yes, we host a shareable page | No, built around a site widget |
| Best fit | Deflecting repeat questions before a person is needed | Small teams who want to chat with visitors live on their store |
A closer look at Tidio
AI as an add-on behaves differently from AI as the product
Tidio began as live chat and added Lyro on top. That history shows in the shape of the product: the AI is priced as a separate allowance of conversations, and the default experience is a human chatting with a visitor. It is a sensible way to add AI to an established product without disrupting customers who liked it as it was.
The consequence is that automation has a meter attached. When the allowance runs low, the fallback is a person, which means the busiest periods are exactly when automation stops. That is the opposite of what you want from deflection.
ClerkChat has no live chat heritage to protect. The agent answers first and a person is brought in on escalation. Whether that suits you depends on whether you want to be in the conversation by default.
Where live chat still wins
Live chat is genuinely better for some conversations. A visitor hesitating on a high-value purchase, a complaint that needs a person to take ownership, a sales conversation where reading the room matters: these want a human, quickly, and a tool built for that will feel better than one built for deflection.
Tidio's ecommerce features are also concrete rather than decorative. Direct Shopify and WooCommerce integration, order tracking in the chat, cart recovery. If your store runs on those, that is real value and ClerkChat does not replicate all of it.
The honest framing is not automation versus humans. It is what your default should be, and what share of your conversations deserve a person's attention.
The channel question, again
Tidio is strongest as a website widget for a store. If your customers arrive on your site and message from there, that covers the ground. ClerkChat's advantage only appears when a meaningful share of your conversations start in WhatsApp or an Instagram DM, where a site widget cannot reach them.
It is worth actually checking rather than assuming. Look at where your last hundred customer messages arrived. If they are nearly all on-site chat, the multichannel argument is not an argument for you.
When Tidio is the better choice
Tidio does things ClerkChat does not, and for some stores they are the point.
- You want to chat with visitors live on your store, with automation as the supporting act
- You need Shopify or WooCommerce features in the chat, like order tracking and cart recovery
- Your conversations are mostly sales-led and benefit from a person reading the room
- Your volume is low enough that a small AI conversation allowance is not a constraint
ClerkChat and Tidio questions
- How does the AI pricing differ?
- Tidio prices its Lyro AI separately from the base plan, as an allowance of AI conversations. ClerkChat includes the agent in the plan, so answering more questions does not add cost. At low volume a small allowance may be cheaper; check both current pricing pages before deciding.
- Does ClerkChat have live chat?
- Escalation hands a conversation to your team with the full transcript, but ClerkChat is not a live chat product and does not try to be. If chatting with visitors in real time is the main thing you want, Tidio is built for that and ClerkChat is not.
- What about Shopify features?
- ClerkChat connects to Shopify so order and shipping details can be used in answers. Tidio goes further inside the storefront, with features like cart recovery. If those are central to your store, that is a real gap.
- Is migrating difficult?
- The training material moves easily, since both work from your site content and documents. What does not carry over is anything built around live chat availability and agent scheduling, because ClerkChat has no equivalent.
