Agent settings control what customers see and how the agent responds. Review these settings before you publish a widget or help page.
1

Open Settings

Select your agent, then select Settings in the sidebar.
2

Set the public identity

Update Agent Name, Agent Slug, and Agent Avatar. Keep the slug short and stable because Clerk Chat uses it in public URLs.
3

Write the instructions

In Instructions, define the agent’s role, approved tone, answer boundaries, and escalation policy. Name the behavior you want instead of relying on broad phrases such as “be helpful.”
4

Write the welcome message

In Welcome Message, tell customers what the agent can help with. This is the first message in a new chat.
5

Verify the changes

Open Playground, start a new chat, and test the revised identity and behavior.
Deleting an agent removes its configuration from the workspace. Use Delete Agent only when you no longer need its sources, deployment, or conversations.
