# Connect Claude or ChatGPT

> Prepare a Clerk Chat workspace connection for support agent tools in your assistant.

Manage your artificial intelligence (AI) support agents from Claude or ChatGPT through a Clerk Chat workspace connection.

<Warning>
  Directory listings are pending. The hosted endpoint includes the expanded tool catalog. Provider
  authorization still requires browser consent. Authenticated Claude and ChatGPT flows have not been
  verified. Check tool availability in your connection.
</Warning>

## Connect your workspace

You need a Clerk Chat account and membership in the workspace you want to connect.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add Clerk Chat in your assistant">
    In Claude, add a custom connector. In ChatGPT, add a custom MCP server or install the Clerk Chat
    plugin. Enter `https://mcp.clerkchat.co/mcp` and select OAuth authentication. In Claude, select
    **Register automatically** for the OAuth client.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in and choose a workspace">
    Sign in when Clerk Chat opens, or create an account. Select the workspaces you want to connect.
    Review the requested permissions and approve the connection.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check your connection">
    Ask: "List the agents in my connected Clerk Chat workspace." Confirm the returned agents belong
    to the workspaces you approved.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Your connection applies to the workspaces you approve. Open **MCP** in the dashboard sidebar to manage workspace access and revoke clients. Removing a workspace stops its access on the next tool call. Approve a new connection to grant additional workspaces.
Your current membership, role, and plan determine which actions are available.

## Create an agent and add knowledge

Give your assistant the agent name and the knowledge you want to add.

Ask: "Create a support agent named Store support."
Keep the returned agent ID and dashboard link for follow-up requests.

Then ask: "Add this text to Store support: Returns are accepted within 30 days with proof of purchase."
You can also request a website knowledge source.

Source processing can continue after acceptance. Ask for the returned source's status.
A source ID confirms acceptance. The status confirms whether processing succeeded.

## Add documents

Attach your file in Claude or Codex, then ask the assistant to add it to your agent.
The assistant sends the file contents through MCP. File uploads do not need a browser.
ChatGPT can also send authorized attachment metadata with a supported temporary download link.

MCP transfers accept PDF, TXT, MD, CSV, TSV, JSON, XLS, and XLSX files up to 8 MiB.
Your plan's knowledge storage limits also apply.
Ask your assistant to check the returned source's status until processing finishes.
If the assistant cannot access the attachment contents, it must report that problem rather than invent an upload.

Do not paste private storage credentials or access tokens into chat.

## Publish and inspect your agent

Ask for the agent's website embed code. Copy the returned script or iframe snippet into your site.

Ask for an analytics summary and specify the agent and period. Analytics access depends on your plan.

Ask for Telegram or WhatsApp connection status. To connect a channel, open the returned Clerk Chat setup link.
Complete setup there, then check status again. Keep channel credentials in Clerk Chat.

## Manage your dashboard from chat

The expanded tool set covers the dashboard operations below. Your approved workspaces, current roles, and plans still apply.

| Area | Available operations |
| - | - |
| Agents | Read and update settings, status, instructions, model, language, welcome message, and starters; duplicate, archive, transfer, share templates, and manage avatars |
| Knowledge | List and inspect sources; add text, Q\&A, websites, URL batches, YouTube, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and documents; edit, archive, and request processing |
| Deployment | Read and update website widget and hosted help-page configuration; retrieve embed code |
| Analytics | Read full agent and workspace reports, including comparisons, volume, peaks, retained totals, recent conversations, and freshness |
| Integrations | Inspect and configure supported providers; start browser OAuth; manage Slack channels, WhatsApp setup, and helpdesk ticket types |
| Conversations | List and inspect conversations and history; draft or send replies; translate messages; manage takeover, assignment, status, priority, category, read state, and notification settings |
| Automations | Create, edit, enable, disable, and delete automations; inspect runs; read and export leads; mark leads read |

Supported integration providers are Slack, Notion, Shopify, Stripe, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, Telegram, Intercom, and Zendesk.
Provider OAuth still requires browser approval. A setup link does not confirm a successful connection.

Ask your assistant to read current settings before changing them. Conversation changes and automation edits use version checks.
Confirm before sending a customer reply, disconnecting a provider, moving an agent, or deleting content.

## Keep credentials and custom actions private

Credential reads are unavailable. Provider credential inputs are write-only; prefer browser setup or the dashboard when handling secrets.

Custom-action headers, URL query strings, and body templates are redacted when read.
Preserve these fields when editing other settings. Replace them only when you intend to change the custom action.

Tools do not start new outbound conversations, manually run or cancel automations, retry automation runs, or deploy Cloudflare infrastructure.

## Disconnect and get help

Remove the Clerk Chat connection from your assistant when you no longer need it.
Reconnect if authorization expires or you want to approve another workspace.

Contact [support](https://clerkchat.co/contact) for connection problems.
Include the tool name and error message. Omit tokens, document contents, and customer data.
